read Hugh Huxham's business card around 1918.

Huxham was a consummate entertainer. He took vaudeville to new levels not only in Queensland but throughout Australia and New Zealand between 1914 - 1926.

Most famous for his company Huxham's Serenaders, featuring his talented wife Edith and a cast of talented singers and performers, Hugh Huxham was a household name in early 20th century theatre.

In 1911, in the midst of the Chinese Revolution Huxham toured Hong Kong, Canton and Shanghai.

He performed with the Bandmann circuit for fourteen weeks in 1914 during a legendary tour of the sub-continent playing sold out venues in Calcutta, Bombay and Delhi.

By 1927 Hugh Huxham had abandoned his successful company and left Brisbane for good. indeed, by this time he had turned his back on theatre altogether in the pursuit of a political career in Victoria.
